Proactive Focus

I think sometimes we want things to come through, but do not understand we are responsible for things staying the same.
I have recently started to read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Convey, unfortunately he passed away recently.
As I read the first habit is to be proactive-focus not reactive. He points out that we should not base our happiness in the things we “have”. Rather, we should strive to “be” that which will bring us fulfillment. The “Have” and “Be” concept really got my attention.
He talks about how we think we will be happy if we have this or that. However the Be’s talk about what I can do more of to
Have those things; I can be more resourceful, diligent, creative, or cooperative.
This also made me think about the story of Nehemiah 6:1-14. He was rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. He used his problem-solving skills, confronted false accusations (at times we accused ourselves). He prayed to God for strength and wisdom, and
God answered his prayer. The Lord supplied abundantly everything he needed to rebuild the city, and changed the people’s heart towards him. He was proactive and changed occurred because of that attitude.
In this journey of life we encounter a lot of negativity, but we have to stay proactive. God has skilled me with gifts and talents, I shouldn’t wait for others to see my gifts to move forward (they may never do).  My desire is to live life to the fullest as God has given me the desire, passion, and breathe. I do not need to wait for others to give me “permission” to do the vision God has already given me. I also learned through this story that you need balance. It’s not being a mother or entrepreneur but balancing both. We need to be proactive so that when opportunities come we can shine like the star we are wired to be!
